Mini Coloured Stone Canopic Set - Beautiful in attention to detail, this set of minature canopic jars bear the heads of each animal true to originals found. The prayer on the front has been recreated in detail and the image we have truely does not do them justice. Tiny, perfect and beautiful, this wonderful set is a steal.

Canopic jars were in use from the Old Kingdom onwards in Egypt to store various internal organs removed during the process of mummification. They were four in number and eventually came to represent the Four Sons of Horus. Each jar has a characterisitc head associated with the demi-god charged with the safekeeping of a particular human organ. These four genii also represent the four cardinal points of the compass. Duamutef or Tuamautef, the jackal-headed jar (Dog) representing the east, contained the heart and lungs and was protected by the goddess Neith. Qebehsenuef, the falcon-headed jar, representing the west, contained the liver and gall-bladder and was protected by the goddess Selk. Imseti or Amset, the human-headed jar representing the south, contained the stomach and large intestines and was protected by the Goddesss Isis. Hapi , the baboon-headed jar representing the North contained the small viscerae and was protected by the Goddess Nephys. SIZE - each at least 8cm high

Gold Canopic Set - As you can see, this canopic jar set differs from the traditional sets in that it pictures Egyptian styled heads instead of the animal Gods. They are still designed in the style of canopic jars with prayers on the front and the head providing the stopper. Lighter and with more internal storage area than our other canopic jars these are sold as a complete set. £18.25/$34
