Subject: Re: Witch Soap
ACK!!!!! Please be aware that working with lye can cause severe burns, lung
injury ETC. ETC. ETC. Please be informed, educated about the entire
soapmaking process in its entirety before attempting to make soap.
I am a professional soapmaker and have been making it for over three
years.....and I hate seeing these recipes pop up that don't say anything
about cautions, etc.
If you are a beginner you need to know a lot of basics to keep yourself and
others from harm when making soap.
Also. Never use IRON for a container for soap! Only stainless steel (only
metal allowed!!!) will do as others will disintegrate from the lye. Glass
containers are okay but not if heat tempered as they may shatter from the
heat that happens when you make the water and lye solution. A container
like a Rubbermaid water pitcher is appropriate for the water and lye.
The water and lye solution *will make fumes.*
It is caustic enough to cause burns or blindness if spilled on skin or eyes.
Never add water to lye....always lye to the water (or you will get an
inferno of solution boiling over).
And don't make a large batch as your first attempt. Best to start out
SMALL!!! Small disasters are better than Large Ones!!!
There is much much more you should know....these are only tidbits.
